Adventures in God
They still gamble at the cross
Each week we would have several hundred people milling around listening to the praise and worship and preaching of the word or just shopping and almost every week Satan would send someone to either harass the preacher or cause confusion through a drunk or disorderly person.
There was a syndicate of men who were a real challenge to us. They mugged innocent bystanders or tried to sell them something to distract them and then one of them would grab their handbag or goods and run. They also used card games and dice to trick the people into gambling.
This particular week they decided to gamble and throw dice right at the foot of the cross while I was preaching. I said to them, “Gentlemen, please, there are hundreds of places to do this, why here?” I will never forget the look on the face of their leader – we had had an encounter with him in the past.
This man was big and very mean. He walked up to me, looked me in the eyes and hit me right in the chest with his fist. I was shocked. In the world I came from you hit first and you hit hard. He hit me again, not taking his eyes off mine. The third time he lifted his hand to strike me, the Spirit of the Lord rose up inside of me and I said, “In the name of Jesus you will not hit me again!” He froze like a statue - and the crowd went wild. Within a few minutes I gave them an opportunity to receive Christ and virtually the whole crowd responded and accepted Jesus as their savior. ALL GLORY TO GOD for His marvelous works.
Romans 8:36-39
"For Your sake we are killed all day long; We are accounted as sheep for the slaughter." 37 Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. 38 For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, 39 nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
