Led by the Spirit

It is vital for every believer to walk and live in the Spirit, being governed and controlled by Him daily. If we are led by the Spirit then we are not under or subject to the Law. Jesus was controlled completely by the Spirit and only did what the Father told Him to do. He too was baptized by John the Baptist and was immediately led by the Spirit into the wilderness where He fasted for forty days. Having said all of that, I submit to you that if we going to walk in the Spirit, be led by the Spirit, governed and controlled by the Spirit, then we will have to be filled by the Spirit daily as well.

“But I say, walk and live [habitually] in the [Holy] Spirit [responsive to and controlled and guided by the Spirit]; then you will certainly not gratify the cravings and desires of the flesh (of human nature without God). 17 For the desires of the flesh are opposed to the [Holy] Spirit, and the [desires of the] Spirit are opposed to the flesh (godless human nature); for these are antagonistic to each other [continually withstanding and in conflict with each other], so that you are not free but are prevented from doing what you desire to do. 18 But if you are guided (led) by the [Holy] Spirit, you are not subject to the Law.” Galatians 5:16-18 (AMP)

The Spirit of God has come to help us in our weaknesses, He helps us through life without us realizing or understanding His moment-by-moment presence. He helps us in our prayer life and also prays to the Father on our behalf. He equips us, and strengthens us to complete the work that Jesus started in us. Being filled with the Spirit is giving Him full control of our lives. This means that unless we are under the guidance of the Spirit we are not able to follow the ways of God as we ought to.

With His help, things are so much easier to handle. The Holy Spirit was sent by the Father to equip us, enable us and fill us with His mighty power. The Holy Spirit is the glory, the anointing and the fire of God. He has clothed us with Himself, enabling us to walk in love as well as to stand against the evil forces that lie in wait to deceive us.

“And behold, I will send forth upon you what My Father has promised; but remain in the city [Jerusalem] until you are clothed with power from on high.” Luke 24:49 (AMP)

Once the disciples of Christ were filled with the Spirit of the living God they began to do exploits in Jesus name - preaching with great boldness and authority. In Acts 2:41 about three thousand souls were added to them. In Acts 4:4 another five thousand souls were added to the church. Statistics show that today there are about 2 billion people who believe in the Lord Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior.

And do not get drunk with wine, for that is debauchery; but ever be filled and stimulated with the [Holy] Spirit. Ephesians 5:18 (AMP)

Be filled with the Spirit. Keep on being filled; be continuously filled with the Spirit. A believer can never obtain more of the Holy Spirit, for he indwells the Christian's life in all his fullness. But the Holy Spirit can get more of the believer; that is, he can exercise complete control of the life that is yielded to him. (From The Wycliffe Bible Commentary) Jeremiah 29:13 says “And you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart.” Spend some time with the Lord reading the Word and praying. Seek Him with all of your heart and He will fill you to overflowing beyond what you can imagine.

As we live a Spirit-filled life, we will be able to serve the Lord with fervency.

“Never lag in zeal and in earnest endeavor; be aglow and burning with the Spirit, serving the Lord.” Romans 12:11 (AMP)

The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you. Amen.
