God's Unconditional Love
by Bro. Peter Rahme
“But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. 9 Much more then, having now been justified by His blood, we shall be saved from wrath through Him. 10 For if when we were enemies we were reconciled to God through the death of His Son, much more, having been reconciled, we shall be saved by His life. 11 And not only that, but we also rejoice in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received the reconciliation.” Romans 5:8-11
God is constantly demonstrating His own love toward us. No matter how we failed in the past, and regardless of how we mess up now, He reaches out to us. His love never changes. God is love and there is no one or nothing that will change His love for people.
The amazing thing about God’s love, grace and mercy is that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. He didn’t wait for us to clean up our act. He didn’t say “First become holy and then I will receive you”. He didn’t say “when you love me with all of your heart, all of you soul and all of your strength, then I will accept you as a child of mine”. No, while we were still sinners Christ died for us. Hallelujah!
We have been redeemed from the curse of the law
When you go back to the Old Testament and read about the law given to the Israelites, you will find there are about 6,000 commandments with regard to daily living. It was impossible for the Israelites then, and literally impossible for us now, to fulfill all these commandments. We could not even keep the Ten Commandments, let alone thousands more.
The law in itself was perfect. It came from God and it was for our protection. It was also a guideline or blueprint for how we should live. But the religious leaders of the day like the Pharisees and Sadducees, added many man-made laws making it even more difficult to fulfill the law. But, the good news is thatChrist has redeemed us from the curse of the law, having become a curse for us (for it is written, "Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree”.) (Galatians 3:13)
God in all of His wisdom knew that we could never have the same relationship with Him as Adam had before the fall. So while in our sinful and carnal ways, God reached out to us by sending Christ to be the propitiation for our sins.
“In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins. 11 Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another.” 1 John 4:10-11
The Royal law
If Christ died for us while we were still sinners then we must walk blameless before our God and before people, having our fruit unto holiness and our end everlasting life. If we love our God with all of our hearts and love people as we do ourselves, we are fulfilling the royal law. (James 2:8)
In times past many of us were unlovable, but God reached out to us in our failures and weaknesses and gave us new life in Jesus enabling us to grow in the love and grace and the wisdom of God. We are not perfect but we strive towards perfection in Him. Hallelujah!
For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, 39 nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 8:38-39
By the Word of God we understand that Christ died for us while we were yet sinners. How much more then should we understand His love for us now, when we begin to serve Him and obey Him as children of the Most High God?
I encourage you to start your day by thanking Him for all that He has done for you and your family. Praise Him by lifting up your hands in adoration and surrender to His will and guidance for the day. Keep a verse of scripture about the love of God in your heart by meditating on it, then go and love the unlovable as Christ loves us. He gave His life for us while we were still sinners now the least we can do is share that life with others. It is truly a privilege to serve our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. I will be forever grateful for His unconditional love.
The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen.
