Keep The Fire Burning
“That is why I would remind you to stir up (rekindle the embers of, fan the flame of, and keep burning) the [gracious] gift of God, [the inner fire] that is in you by means of the laying on of my hands [with those of the elders at your ordination].” 2 Timothy 1:6
The Berkeley version of the New Testament says “to keep alive the flame of God’s precious gift which is in you through the laying on of my hands.”
The fires of revival are burning throughout the world. We’re even seeing child evangelists emerging to call the lost to salvation. We as the church, must be ready to reach out and bring in the harvest.
Apart from being ready, in season and out, to proclaim the Good News of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, we have to keep the fire of God burning within our own hearts, keep the passion and the zeal for Christ, so that the Holy Spirit can work through us as He leads people across our paths.
How do we keep ourselves stirred up and keep the fire burning within us?
Spend time with God…
- In prayer and fellowship (speaking to Him)
- Listening to, and waiting on Him, because He too, wants to speak to you and show you things to come
- In praise and worship
Don’t neglect…
- Your prayer life – keep your spirit man charged up by praying higher and higher in the Holy Spirit (Jude 20)
- Your study of the Word (1 Timothy 2:25) God wants and expects us to walk in His truths and provisions, but we have to know what they are in order to live a victorious life.
- The gift that is within you (1 Timothy 4:14)
"As each one has received a gift, minister it to one another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God." 1 Peter 4:10
Let Matthew 10:8 burn in your spirit:
“Freely you have received, freely give.” In our salvation alone, God has given us so very much that our heart’s desire should be to reach out to as many people as we can and give them what we have so freely received.
"Love one another with brotherly affection [as members of one family], giving precedence and showing honor to one another. 11 Never lag in zeal and in earnest endeavor; be aglow and burning with the Spirit, serving the Lord". Romans 12:10-11 (AMP)
If you want to stay filled, revived, refreshed – do something for someone else. Take your eyes off yourself and your own needs and begin to see people through the eyes of God, let the compassion of Jesus fill you and as you begin to give out, you will see your needs met.
We are anointed to go…
"But it is God Who confirms and makes us steadfast and establishes us [in joint fellowship] with you in Christ, and has consecrated and anointed us [enduing us with the gifts of the Holy Spirit]; 22[He has also appropriated and acknowledged us as His by] putting His seal upon us and giving us His [Holy] Spirit in our hearts as the security deposit and guarantee [of the fulfillment of His promise]" 2 Corinthians 1:21-22 (AMP)
I will never forget the first time I preached. It was in the open air in Johannesburg, South Africa where hundreds of people mill around. I stepped forward to preach but no words would come out of my mouth. I had a lump in my throat from fright. People waited and stared at me, waiting to hear what I was about to say. It seemed like an endless period of time and then these words came bellowing out of my mouth: “The same God who anointed Jesus of Nazareth to preach the gospel, anointed Peter Rahme!” To my surprise, within minutes I had preached up a storm and about seventy people came forward to receive Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. "How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power, who went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with Him." Acts 10:38
From that day forward I have never doubted the call of God on my life, and the fact that He anoints us to obey the call that He placed on our lives when we accepted the Lord Jesus as our personal Savior. The same God that anointed Jesus to preach the Gospel has anointed and called you too. (Romans 11:29) Keep the fire burning and you will fulfill the call of God on your life. You’ll be amazed at what He can accomplish through you!
The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen.
