The Two Adams
by Bro. Peter Rahme

“Then God said, "Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth." 27 So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them. 28 Then God blessed them, and God said to the, "Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it; have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over every living thing that moves on the earth."31Then God saw everything that He had made, and indeed it was very good.” Genesis 1:26-28, 31

Six times in Genesis 1, talking about His creation, God says, it was good. One can imagine God, like an artist, painting this beautiful skyscape, with its stars and spectacular galaxies and then running his brush across the Milky Way, and looking at his work and saying it is good. Or a painter, painting a landscape with towering majestic mountains, with waterfalls and rivers running through them, weeping willows and beautiful flowers spread across the landscape. Then looking at his painting and saying it is good.

God wanted someone to share this beauty with so He created man and woman - His final creation - in His image and in His likeness. We were created in perfect harmony with God. The Bible says, “then God saw everything that He had made, and indeed it was very good”. In the Hebrew very means superlative and good means beautiful (Strong’s).

So what happened to the human race to find ourselves in the position we’re in? The answer is found in Romans 3:23: “All have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God”. It all stems from the sin Adam and Eve committed in the Garden of Eden. The first Adam was tempted and fell. King David later said, "In sin did my mother conceive me" Psalm 51:5. In the same way we genetically pass on our physical traits to our offspring, so sin is transmitted. We have a fallen nature. We are all born of the first Adam.

“Therefore, as sin came into the world through one man, and death as the result of sin, so death spread to all men, [no one being able to stop it or to escape its power] because all men sinned. 14 Yet death held sway from Adam to Moses [the Lawgiver], even over those who did not themselves transgress [a positive command] as Adam did. Adam was a type (prefigure) of the One Who was to come [in reverse, the former destructive, the Latter saving].” Romans 5:12, 14 (AMP)

Each and every person born on earth was born from one seed. Acts 17:26 says, “He created all the people of the world from one man, Adam” (TLB). Our nature was to follow in Adam’s footsteps; everything bears after its own kind.

Remember, God said at the completion of creation it was very good(Genesis 1:31). Then we read that because of Adam’s sin death spread to every person (Romans 5:12) - therefore we all need a savior to save us from eternal destruction and separation from our loving, gracious, heavenly Father. This is where the last Adam comes into the picture. In order to escape the judgment of God, in order not to have to pay the price for our own sins, in order to live forever, we have to be born of the second Adam (John 3:1-6).

“So also is the resurrection of the dead. The body is sown in corruption, it is raised in incorruption. 43 It is sown in dishonor, it is raised in glory. It is sown in weakness, it is raised in power. 44 It is sown a natural body, it is raised a spiritual body. There is a natural body, and there is a spiritual body. 45 And so it is written, "The first man Adam became a living being." The last Adam became a life-giving spirit.” 1 Corinthians 15:42-45

Glory to God - His anger is but for a moment, but His mercy endures forever. He would not see us dying in our sins and carnal ways so He sent His glorious, loving, tenderhearted Son, the last Adam”, into the world, who became a life-giving spirit to all who would receive Him and spend eternity with the Father and His Son. Hallelujah!

Now that we who have received Christ are new creatures in Him (2 Corinthians 5:17) we are no longer controlled by the enemy, or by our carnal nature. Because of the last Adam we can now be led by the Spirit of God, we can walk by faith and not by sight. We have become God-pleasers once again.

We can now walk with Him in the cool of the day like Adam did before the fall. He is not watching us from a distance, but lives within us, and hurts when we hurt and rejoices when we rejoice. The last Adam, Christ, paid for every person with His own blood. We are no longer alienated and enemies of God, but we are kings and priests by the precious blood of Jesus, the last Adam. All glory praise and honor be given to the holy Son of God. Hallelujah

“And you, who once were alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works, yet now He has reconciled 22 in the body of His flesh through death , to present you holy, and blameless, and above reproach in His sight.” Colossians 1:21-22

How appropriate that this gospel of Christ is called the Good News - you cannot add to, or subtract from it. The Word of God is full of power, full of grace, full of mercy, to every one who will believe and receive this glorious news. So how about it, shout “Hallelujah” right now, and praise Jesus, the last Adam, for new life in Him and all He has done for us. Glory to Jesus! He alone deserves all of the praise and all of the glory for ever and ever. Amen!

The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen.
