Cast All Your Cares Upon Him
by Bro. Peter Rahme

“Therefore humble yourselves [demote, lower yourselves in your own estimation] under the mighty hand of God, that in due time He may exalt you, 7 Casting the whole of your care [all your anxieties, all your worries, all your concerns, once and for all] on Him, for He cares for you affectionately and cares about you watchfully.” 1 Peter 5:6-7 (AMP)

God has made this provision for us so that we do not need to carry unnecessary burdens, cares and worry, but to cast all our cares, burdens, anxiety, hurts and distractions on Him. We can know without a shadow of a doubt that He will help us and show us how to deal with the daily pressures that we are faced with.

If we humble ourselves before our God, and submit to Him, He promises us that He will lift us up above the troubles and cares that crowd our minds. (James 4:10)

While we are on this earth there will always be opportunities to take on the cares of the world. The Word tells us however, in Philippians 4:6-7, to be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, to let our requests be made known to God. Then the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard our hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

Laying aside every weight
“Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, 2 looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.” Hebrews 12:1-2

In this scripture the Bible talks about laying aside every weight, all the burdens, cares, anxiety, and the like, that we are bombarded with daily. If we don’t deal with the cares of life they will surely deal with us. We cannot become so preoccupied with the pressures of life that we cannot trust the Lord as our sole solution.

We are told to lay aside our burdens that weigh us down but we are to cast our cares upon the Lord as well. The word ”cast” is the same word we find in Luke 19:35 where they “cast” their garments on the colt for Jesus to ride into Jerusalem. This is how we deal with pressure and cares - cast them down and out of your mind by taking authority over the circumstances that try to dictate to you. Then replace your thinking with the Word that is alive and active and will bring peace, harmony and tranquility to your soul.

“Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy — meditate on these things. 9 The things which you learned and received and heard and saw in me, these do, and the God of peace will be with you.” Philippians 4:8-9

Cares will weigh us down
Satan is fully aware of our weaknesses and keeps throwing cares and problems at us and watches with delight as we receive and act on them. We cannot afford to let cares weigh us down. The Word says we must cast all our cares upon Him, for He cares for us.

God has made a way
Every time the Bible tells us to lay something down, it also tells us to pick something up or gives us a solution. Here are some great examples:

  • “Therefore lay aside all filthiness and overflow of wickedness, and receive with meekness the implanted word, which is able to save your souls.” James 1:21
  • “Therefore, laying aside all malice, all deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and all evil speaking, 2 as newborn babes, desire the pure milk of the word, that you may grow thereby, 3 if indeed you have tasted that the Lord is gracious.” 1 Peter 2:1-3
We must continually renew our minds with the Word of God (see this teaching on Renewing The Mind) so that we will be able to control our emotions and the situations we are faced with on a daily basis. The mind is the battlefield and the devil is working overtime to defeat us, and he is not likely to stop until Jesus comes back. So be prepared to fight the good fight of faith in Jesus’ mighty name. With the triune God living in you, you can do it!

The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen.
